A normal photo is a grid of pixels, so when you enlarge it, those pixels stretch and the image turns soft and blocky. Vectorizing — also called tracing — rebuilds the picture out of mathematical shapes and curves instead of pixels. The result can scale to any size and stay razor-sharp, whether it ends up on a business card or a banner. The trade-off is that tracing works best on simple, high-contrast images. Logos, icons, silhouettes, and bold line art convert beautifully because they have clear edges and a limited palette. A detailed photograph with soft gradients and thousands of colors is much harder to trace cleanly, and often looks more like a stylized poster than an exact copy — which can actually be a fun effect if that is what you want.
